Where are the Snowy Mountains?

What is the best time to visit in winter?
Traditionally, August is peak season, but fantastic snow making technology
has improved conditions in June/ July. September is the answer if you like Sunny days!
What time of the year does it snow?
We usually get our first fall at the end of May and our last one in October…
How far are you from the ski slopes?
We are 5 minutes from the Skitube train (this takes you to Perisher Blue) and 15 minutes
from Thredbo Village by car.
How do I get to the ski slopes?
Self drive, you do need a car if you are staying at Crackenback.
Taxi’s are an option but are expensive. Bus services from Jindabyne are available in winter.
Do I need chains?
Most of the time, No. When snow is forecast below a certain altitude, you may need chains, should the
circumstances arise that you do need chains, we can point you in the right direction to hire them. The National Parks & Wildlife Service advises that chains must be carried by all non-4WD vehicles entering the Kosciuzko National Park.

Do you have family rates?
Yes, we do offer a great family experience at Crackenback, some of our rooms have children’s lofts – all
children are charged at children’s rates.
Are children welcome?
Children are welcomed and love it at Crackenback, although it is more suitable for children over 5 years of age.
What is there for the children?
Lots and lots - not only do we have a giant maze ...we have a children’s playground, a TV and games room, an indoor swimming pool and tennis court.
In summer families eat together. In the winter peak period the children all eat an early dinner together, then we
organise a children’s activity after dinner - all while mum & dad
have pre-dinner nibbles by the fire and a gourmet dinner...
Do you have children’s meals?
Yes, we serve all their favorites...
Do you have cots?
Yes, but we do recommend if you have a travel cot that you bring it. The lofts are only suitable for
children of 5 years of age and over.

Is there a en-suite in my room?
Yes, all rooms have their own bathrooms
Do I have to have the dinner?
Our famous food is included in all packages, but you are welcome to explore some of the other great restaurants in the
mountains. Bed & breakfast packages are available in the off peak periods.
Do you cater for vegetarians & special diets?
Yes, we are happy to cater for special dietary needs, we ask that you let us know of you specific needs before you arrive.
Do I need to bring linen?
We supply all bedding, towels and bathroom necessities
Do you have laundry facilities?
Unfortunately, we do not have any washing facilities. The closest laundry is in Jindabyne - 10 minutes drive. However, we do have a drying room.
Can I hire ski gear at Crackenback Farm?
We do not have our own hire - but just round the Corner we have an arrangement with High Country Ski & Sports. David and Sue have a great range of
Ski and Snowboard equipment / clothing for all sizes and standards from beginner to pro racer . By hiring your gear when you arrive it means that you
can change it or fix something at any time should you need to. PHONE 02 6456 1462
Do you have television in the rooms?
Some of our bedrooms have television facilities and we also have a cosy tv area with fox, together with a selection of over 100 videos!
Do you have a guest telephone?
Again we do not have telephone facilities in the bedrooms however we do have a pay telephone and a guest line 02 6456 2246
Is it a self contained chalet?
No, Crackenback Farm is one building with seven rooms, we do not have cooking facilities in the rooms. We like it to be a great holiday for everyone so we look after your breakfast and dinner and even afternoon tea for you. We do have a guest fridge.
Can I make a tea or coffee?
We have tea & coffee making facilities in your bedroom and also an area in our main room with a fine selection of teas and a
homemade treat! Coffee is available at the cottage Restaurant for all the die hard coffee drinkers!
Can I bring my own alcohol?
No - sorry we are fully licenced with a fine selection of wines to suit all budgets. We also have a full bar and boast
Australia’s biggest variety of Schnapps!
Are you a running property/ farm?
No, we were once a Tukidale Stud. The property is over 100 acres.
When was the place built?
The historic McEvoy Cottage was built in the mid 1800’s, then the Guesthouse was built onto the existing woolshed in the
late 70’s and the Restaurant was built in the early 80’s.
Tennis Court
Our court is a rustic country style court and not suitable for serious tennis players, only ones that
just want a fun hit. Formal courts are available close by at Jindabyne & Thredbo.
Indoor Plunge Pool
Our indoor pool is only heated in the peak winter season, it is a smaller pool really like a big bath. It
is ideal to relax in and combine with a sauna or cool down in Summer. If you are interested in a larger
pool heated all year round Jindabyne & Thredbo both have great faculties only a short drive away.

What is there to do in Summer?
So much to see and do... At Crackenback you can just relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounds and facilities or you can be
adventurous and go bushwalking, fishing, horseriding, take a ride on the ski tube, visit the wineries, take a lake cruise,
go white water rafting, work out at the Thredbo AIS gym, visit the mighty Snowy Mountains Hydo-electric Scheme, have a game of golf
on Australia’s highest golf course etc. etc. etc.
The region has some fantastic festivals such as Blues, Jazz, World Music, Shakespeare, food and wine. Well worth experiencing.
When is the best time to go fishing?

The school holidays fall :
Over Christmas / January
Easter for a couple of weeks
Late June and early July
September for a couple of weeks
Have you got horse riding on the property?
Trail rides are just next door... we can book and arrange the perfect ride
for you through the true Man from Snowy River Country.
Do you have a package including ski / lift passes?
We do not offer a package including all the ski tickets because one of the best things about Crackenback is
that you have the choice of where you would like to ski, the fax’s are displayed at breakfast and you can decide which resort
you would like to go to that day. We recommend you take advantage of our location and try both.
What specials do you offer?
Crackenback runs special packages from time to time, especially in June, September and through summer.
We also offer special discounts for group bookings. See our home page for current specials
Is there a discount if we book more than one room?
Yes, Crackenback is the perfect spot to visit with a group of friends or families. We are happy to arrange a special
rate.
Can you make a cake for a special celebration?
We are happy to, it is helpful if you can let us know before you arrive.
